4 Days Rest too much

Had too many gigs and other stuff in the way so I haven't ridden since Friday morning. Going to set out tomorrow at 6:30AM for a ride in the forest. My goal is to do at least 5 hours of riding before I go back to work on Tuesday next week.

Think I'll also hit the bike store soon. I want to get my road bike fitted and I also want to buy a headlight. I want to continue early morning rides even when work starts, but I know its going to start getting darker in the mornings soon.

Back in the Forest

I know this picture looks dark but it was only 4PM. I'll blame it on the dark clouds and a whacky camera. How do you like my Home Depot special safety glass? 10 bucks!

Rode from the house to the trail. Its amazing what a dog the mountain bike feels like on the road after doing that road bike ride on Monday, or was that yesterday? Everything on the trail was pretty dry except the rocks and logs. Very slick! I lost traction just before the picture above and almost went down. Just had to put my chain back on; don't know how it popped off.

Otherwise, a great 6 miles of climbing, jumping, balancing, and blasting downhill. I'm exhausted but the Sierra Nevada is going down fine.

The 5:00am, 5 mile, quarter mile repeats.

Beautiful morning in south Florida. Just completed 5 miles of quarter mile repeats. Fun in the beginning and than not so fun at the end. Running to go make the donuts. Need some lessons on how to post a photo. a little help please

Finally!

I found time to change my rear tire tube and fit in a ride at about 5PM. It was real dark and windy looking like the storm was coming any second. The weather report said no rain til tonight so I took a chance. It was only a 45 minute ride but I was dying to get out there and I'm glad I did.

Bella took this pic above as I was leaving. I hit some monster hills in the area. Usually, at least in the last few months, my heart rate has been hitting 180 to 190 on these hills. But with all this consistency in riding lately my conditioning has improved a lot. Today the most my heart rate hit was 166.

Here is a midway shot taken at a church in town by the flagpole.

Then the same church and flagpole after I climbed the road to the top behind the church.

Arriving at home safe before the rain

Pulpit Practice Today

Jump Start this Thang

Here is Don's new jalopy. Pretty swanky and "green" to boot with its hybrid engine. Now he'll probably get lazy and stop training for the marathon because he'll be cruising in his new truck all the time.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Never got to change the tube on my rear tire. Plan to get to it today. Still raining here. 2 more weeks til I go back to work.

No Pedaling in the Rain Today

I got up at 6AM, but it was too late because it was already raining. I thought maybe I'd ride anyway since it wasn't raining hard until I realized that my rear tire went flat overnight. My tires have been losing pressure from the heat and I didn't realize it was actually more of a problem than just the heat with my rear tire. I guess I'll change the tube today and see if that remedies the problem.

It is supposed to rain for the next 3 or 4 days so I am not sure what riding I can get in. I hope there will be a window of dryness somewhere. At least its not cold like this back in December:

We'll be around the house today getting ready for the mega-sleepover. Bella and Korey each have one friend coming and Zoe has 2. Their families will come for dinner first at around 5. We cooked everything yesterday. Almost all the food is from our organic farm share. I made the tomato sauce and the eggplant parm. I also have some Guiness and Sierra Pale Ale for the dads.

I am looking forward to a really cool gig next weekend with Katie Wilson. She is a young up and coming singer who just won a huge band contest in Hartford. Every band in the last 4 years that has won has gone on to national success. She asked me to play this cool hippie festival on August 28th. This band has serious potential with a mix of bluegrass, blues, and folk all set to jamband psychedela-funk.

Here is Katie

Posting Don's Run

Don emailed me to say he ran 15 miles today. A personal best! Amazing. Just 11.5 more to go to do the marathon. Nice job. Is that Hartford '77 you're listening to on the ipod Don? Best Sugaree ever!

Mike also emailed his ride this morning. 30 miles in 97 minutes. 15 miles in the rain. It was also very wise of him to pick up the fish and other groceries along the way.

No riding for me today. Its a rest day. Just drinking coffee and hanging with the family.

First Post

Hey...here's an idea. We so often talk about our training rides thru email, so why don't we do it thru a blog where we can post pictures and share it with others. Hmmm....well here it is. Our very own blog. So post away and keep it clean so the kids can see it too.

I've been doing a lot of mountain biking this summer, except of course when Korey was in the hosptial. He is doing better everyday. I rode this morning at my favorite local trail called the Upper Gussy. Rode from 6:30-8:00AM. Beautiful 55 degree sunny morning.

Here is a pic of me riding the Gussy with one of my buddies a few days ago. A little blurry, but I'll get some better ones soon. As soon as I get a handle on the design stuff here I will post your pics at the header.
