What an exciting day! A bunch of us went down to the finish line to see Dondi running in the marathon. I travelled into the city with my sister Debbie and when we got there we thought Dondi won. The police were escorting the winner just as we entered the gate. But no, it wasn't Dondi. It was Gebre Gebremariam. It was very easy to confuse them.
It was really fun hanging at the grandstand watching all the runners finish.

Then finally we saw Dondi coming over the horizon in good form. The pics aren't great. I'm no pro photographer. But you can see him smiling especially if you click on the photos to enlarge them.
When he saw us we got the fist pump and he started jumping up and down.
Then he set his eyes on the finish line and he went beyond our sight.
We trekked up Central Park West and finally met up with him on 72nd St.
Poor guy had to walk so much after the race. The way they gated the streets it took forever to get back to the hotel. They need a better system for getting the runners out of there.
Congratulations Dondi!!! You are truly a warrior!!
